Outreach

The Engineering Department is committed to building a vibrant and diverse department. One way we are supporting the next generation of engineers is through our outreach programmes, which are targeted to working with young people from groups that are under-represented in the wider engineering sector.

Through collaboration with other teams within King’s as well as with external organisations, we are bringing engineering to life for the engineers of the future.

Girls into Electronics Day

We partnered with the UK Electronics Skills Foundation, in collaboration with Apple, to run a "Girls into Electronics" day in July 2023. The day gave 30 girls in Y11, 12 and 13 the unique opportunity to develop their interest in electronics, with sample lectures and hands-on workshops.

Success for Black Engineers

A joint initiative between the Engineering Department and the School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences, the Success for Black Engineers programme works with both school students interested in studying engineering, and current undergraduates, providing guidance, mentoring and opportunities to support success in engineering.

‘This is Engineering’ Partnership

We are proud to be a university partner on the Royal Academy of Engineering’s ‘This is Engineering’ programme. This digital campaign targets young people aged 13-18 and their influencers to promote engineering careers. It aims to showcase the exciting and rewarding aspects of engineering, with the goal of inspiring 1.5 million young people to become engineers by 2025, with at least half from underrepresented groups.
