Our Research

The Middle Eastern Studies Institute is connected to a vibrant research community of academic staff, visiting researchers and postgraduate research students. Our researchers work in a diverse array of fields, including (but not limited to):

  • History and Politics of the Middle East
  • Conflict Resolution in Divided Societies
  • Culture and Society in the Middle East and North Africa
  • Political Economy of the Middle East and the Gulf
  • International Relations of the Middle East

Research seminars and events

The Programme, through its Middle East & Mediterranean Studies Research Group (MERG), and in association with the Centre for the Study of Divided Societies, regularly hosts series of seminars, special lectures and public events. Many of these events are open to the public, and often attract distinguished speakers and politicians from around the world.

Considering postgraduate research?

If you are interested in joining our community as a research student, your first step should be to contact a potential supervisor and talk through your research proposal with them. They will then be able to advise you on how to apply.
