To make the academic year more balanced and ensure we're fully complying with regulatory bodies, we're adjusting parts of our Academic Calendar from 2026-7 onwards.
The adjustments apply to our assessment periods and the amount of teaching taking place after the Easter break. The start and end dates of the academic year will not change.
See the updated Academic Calendar dates.
What's happening from 2026-7 onwards?
- The first assessment period will be two weeks instead of one week.
- The second assessment period will be four weeks instead of five weeks.
- Teaching periods after Easter will last between one and three weeks, depending on when Easter falls.
Which programmes will this apply to?
The adjustments will apply to all undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes. It will not apply to:
- King’s Foundations programmes
- King’s Digital programmes
- Programmes accredited, recognised or approved by Professional Statutory and Regulatory Bodies (PSRBs), such as pre-registration nursing and midwifery; Medicine MBBS and Dentistry BDS programmes.
These programmes will continue to follow their own specific calendars.
Why are we doing this?
Spreading out assessments more evenly across the academic year aims to make a positive impact on your experience in the following ways:
- Lowering pressure on our students and staff by reducing concentrated and high-volume assessment periods.
- Allowing time for our staff to provide more consistent feedback by reducing peak assessment workloads.
- Helping to improve our marks and results processes.
- Increased teaching and learning and extra-curricular opportunities after the Easter break.
