Keeping each other safe at King's

Students walking up a spiral staircase on campus

The Office for Students has introduced new regulations on harassment and sexual misconduct for universities in England. To ensure we meet the regulations, we’ve updated important resources and training to help us all do what we can to create an inclusive, safe and intellectually vibrant community.

This means protecting our students, staff and visitors from the following unacceptable behaviours, which undermine our values and what we stand for as a University.

  • Bullying
  • Harassment
  • Sexual misconduct
  • Restriction of free speech or academic freedom

How we’re meeting the requirements

We’ve taken five important steps to align our policies and practices with the new regulations:

  • We’ve updated information and resources in Report + Support, which remains our primary platform for reporting incidents and accessing support.
  • In 2024, King’s signed a government-backed pledge to end the use of non-disclosure agreements in any complaints about bullying, harassment, sexual misconduct and other forms of inappropriate behaviour. We want to ensure every student and staff member feels confident speaking out, reporting all instances of unacceptable behaviour and seeking support.

Keeping Each Other Safe: essential training

We’ve developed new essential online training modules for students and staff to complete once a year. These are to help you see the signs and prevent bullying and harassment. The Keeping Each Other Safe (Student Course) is part of enrolment if you’re a new student and re-enrolment if you’re a returning student, but you can also refer to it at any time you’d find it helpful.

Our Community Charter

King's Community Charter was developed jointly by King's College London and King's College London Students Union (KCLSU). Designed as a source of guidance for everyone at King’s, it sets out how we can all contribute positively to developing and maintaining a thriving community, where all can work, learn, and study in an inclusive and respectful environment.

Support if you need it

We recognise bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct can be personally challenging topics, and encourage you to seek support if you feel you need it. Information and support are available on our Preventing and addressing bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct webpage.
