From balancing exams with extracurricular activities to attending lectures and seminars each week, student life can be overwhelming for all of us.
So, why go at it alone?
There’s a world of support right at our fingertips. In this article, I’ll be sharing my personal experiences with King’s support services and how they can help improve your student experience as well.
My first encounter with King’s support services took place before I even became a student. That’s because I consulted Visa and International Student Advice team for guidance on applying for my student visa when I was an offer holder. I dialled their number, waited in queue and was put directly through to an adviser in few minutes. What I enjoyed most about the interaction were the adviser’s calm, patient tone and genuinely helpful guidance
This service is not only for offer holders but also for current students. If you ever face visa issues or immigration doubts, reach out to Visa and International Student Advice team through their drop-in sessions, by phone or email.
If you’re in need of advice in relation to academic or personal wellbeing, I’d recommend reaching out to the Student Wellbeing team at King’s. They’re experts at helping students manage challenges like procrastination, academic stress, or pressure to succeed —things many of us, including myself, experience during our studies. The team is comprised of wellbeing advisers who work closely with you to develop a wellbeing plan and signpost you to other relevant services.
Residence Welfare Leads exist to curtail flat conflicts and resolve a wide range of issues within King’s student accommodations. One night last April, when tensions flared between my flatmates, I dialled the Residence Welfare team in frustration, not expecting an answer at 2.30 am. To my surprise, someone immediately answered the call. The Welfare Lead I spoke gave me advice on how to keep myself and other flatmates safe and quickly alerted the residence security about the incident. The support and quick response time restored my composure and helped me navigate the situation safely and effectively, making it my personal favourite support services at King’s so far.
While having a wide range of support services available to us can be great, it can also be pretty overwhelming trying to figure out which team to reach out to in the face of a problem. Luckily, that’s what Student Services Frontline is for. Give them a call, message or in-person visit if you’re ever not sure who to contact when in need of advice or support.
Student Services Online is a huge repository of self-help articles and guidance on topics like money, housing, funding, documents, facilities, and more. This is a great starting point if you need more information about a given service or are unsure about how to address a certain problem.
