Hello, I'm Professor Shitij Kapur, the Vice-Chancellor & President of King’s College London and I'm delighted to welcome you at the start of this new academic year.
Whether you're joining King’s for the first time or you're continuing your journey with us, a very warm welcome to you. King’s is one of the oldest English universities and it's in the education capital of the world and our global ranking places us among some of the world's finest institutions for education, research and innovation.
For nearly 200 years, our students have been drawn to King’s because they want to make a difference to the world. Distinguished alumni such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu, scientists like Rosalyn Franklin, best-selling authors like Sir Michael Morpurgo, and the Olympians like Dina Asher-Smith have drawn on all that a King's education has to offer to make their mark on the world. And I'm delighted that you're now a part of this tradition.
Whether you're joining us on one of our five London campuses or one of our transnational or online education programmes or from a joint campus with a partner institution in the UK or abroad, you are a part of our diverse, inclusive, and welcoming King’s community. You're a part of a community where for nearly 200 years, ideas and opinions have been freely exchanged, tested, and explored. And a community that has pushed boundaries for the advancement of a knowledge in a world facing complex global challenges. This spirit of intellectual debate and discovery is more important than ever.
But a king's education is not just about what you learn in classrooms. Our award-winning students’ union, KCLSU, has over 400 societies, sports, and activities for you to explore. And through our careers and employability service and the King’s Edge programme, we will support you to achieve outstanding graduate outcomes. Finally, while starting or returning to university is an exciting time, it can also be a challenging time. Remember that there are many wellbeing and support services available both through the university and through KCLSU and that we are here to support you at every step of the way.
I wish you a successful year ahead and we look forward to seeing where your journey with King’s takes you.
