Kings Online


Our team is made up of project managers, instructional designers, learning technologists, video editors and cinematographers who work with faculties and departments to bring their content to life.

Our main office is in the Virginia Woolf Building at King's College London's Strand Campus. Some of our team also work at the Denmark Hill Campus in South London and with King's academics based in Shrivenham, Oxfordshire.

Anna 2

 Anna Wood, Director of King’s Online

  • Leadership and operational management of King’s Online

  • Managing strategic and external partnerships 

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with Faculty and     Programme academic leadership

Anna has more than ten years of experience working in higher education strategy and leadership.

Prior to commencing in her current role in January 2016, she was Director of Administration for The Dickson Poon School of Law for nearly five years.


Duncan Smith, Head of Operations

  • Managing and reporting on the King’s Online budget

  • Financial planning and resource allocation

  • Business case development

  • Managing the relationship with FutureLearn and the King’s Online MOOC strategy

Duncan has six years’ experience in the Higher Education sector and has worked at King’s since January 2013, previously in the Graduate School and as Project Manager for the Vice-Principal (Education) before moving to King’s Online in July 2016. He also has experience of international student recruitment, study abroad, and teaching English as a foreign language.

 Karen new

Karen Greetham, Production Manager 

  • Establishing design and delivery timelines for a portfolio of King’s Online programmes 

  • Acting as first point of contact for faculty during design and development phase 

  • Working with faculty to assist with and facilitate day-to-day operations of programme delivery 

  • Managing workflows within the Instructional Design & Development team

Karen has taught English as second language in South East Asia, and obtained her Master’s Degree from King’s College London in 2013. She is a qualified project manager and is currently managing the design and development of various programmes within Instructional Design & Development. 


Louise Bennett, Instructional Technology Manager

  • Responsible for overseeing new and existing technologies for online programs

  • Primary liaison with IT and CTEL for King's Online

  • Expertise across a wide range of technologies, from server management and web development to rapid authoring tools

Louise began her career as a technologically-focused librarian, but after discovering e-learning while working for the Australian Federal Police, she shifted focus in 2013. An experienced technologist, she has worked across both vocational and higher education, and has a passion for open-source and innovation. She joined King's Online as a Web Developer in 2016, before stepping up to her current role later that year. 


Business Support 
 Lauren Perry Lauren Perry, Operations Officer and PA to Anna Wood 

  • Provides personal assistance to the Director of King's Online
  • Provides event and administrative support for all distance learning courses 
  • Responsible for King's Online office management 

Lauren has been at King’s College London for 4 years and was previously working within the Geography Department as an Administrative Assistant. 


Project Managers
Outline of person Avninder Grewal, Programmes Project Manager

  • Works with the Dickson Poon School of Law, identifying project requirements, agreeing timelines and allocating resources
  • Currently managing the development of King's Online's online law courses, including the International Corporate & Commercial Law, International Financial & Commercial Law, and Executive LLM programmes

Avninder has a postgraduate qualification in education and is passionate about learning and development. Before joining King's Online in 2017, Avninder worked in higher education for around five years, and has a wide range of experience of working with both students and academic staff.

Anna Sharples, Programmes Project Manager

  • Working with departments to identify their project requirements, establishing timelines and allocating resources
  • Managing the workflow of development teams within Instructional Design and & Development
  • Working with faculties and central College administration to facilitate the operational delivery of new programmes

Anna joined King's Online in March 2016 and has worked at the College for ten years in various central College and academic departments. She is an Agile qualified project manager and is currently working on a portfolio of managed programmes, MOOCs and blended courses. She holds a BA in European Politics and is a lover of modern foreign languages and all things European.

Helen Helen Whitmore, Programmes Project Manager

  • Manages the development of a range of online courses within budgetary, time and quality constraints
  • Works with the King's Online team to develop processes and templates which improve project efficiency; works across the Faculties (and King's Online) to identify project requirements and allocate resources 

Helen has worked in various professional roles in higher education for ten years, before joining King's Online in April 2017. She currently works on a portfolio of managed and blended programmes and holds a masters degree in printmaking.

Outline of person Jessica Wyatt, Programmes Project Manager

  • Working with the IoPPN, managing the MScs in Psychology & Neuroscience of Mental Health and in Applied Neuroscience - identifying project requirements, establishing timelines and correctly allocating resources
  • Enabling King's Online's instructional design & development teams to track progress, mange risks and problem solve; facilitating collaboration between these teams and with subject matter experts

Jessica joined King's Online in March 2017. Before this she worked in educational publishing for six years, previously working at Pearson, managing GCSE and A Level qualifications, and developing print and digital materials for secondary education.

Instructional Designers
 Alicia Dr Alicia M. Campos Hebrero, Instructional Designer

  • Design and development of new and existing learning materials that support instructional and departmental goals
  • Liaise with academics in order to build and structure learning materials that communicate their expertise and support their teaching strategy
  • Design educational activities in collaboration with subject matter experts, ensuring linkages between educational assets (i.e. learning needs, objectives, etc.) and the creation and delivery of learning content for live-in person or web based learning scenarios.

Alicia has dedicated her professional path to the development of educational software, combining her background in Software Engineering with a PhD on Principles of Instruction and Learning Analytics. Her current research interests include the investigation of learning analytics to improve adaptive learning designs.

 Tom Dore

Tom Dore, Instructional Designer

  • Designing an engaging online learning experience
  • Liaising with academics to communicate their subject expertise in new formats
  • Structuring and shaping content to align it with objectives and assessment

Tom has a decade of experience working in e-learning for higher education institutions, and five years’ prior experience in teaching roles, as well as technical experience and qualifications.


Rosie Lynch, Instructional Designer 

  • Working with academic staff to produce engaging online learning experiences
  • Developing and designing instructional material
  • Collaborating with technical developers and designers to create innovative digital content

Rosie has more than ten years’ experience producing educational online content, specialising in the last five years in distance learning at postgraduate level.


Jacki Sherwood, Instructional Designer 

  • Online learning design and development lead for the Defence Studies Department
  • Works with subject matter experts to design online programmes and engaging learning experiences
  • Storyboards then creates content and activities in collaboration with technical developers
  • Collaborates with King's Online's wider Instructional Design & Development team to develop online learning programmes and content

Jacki joined the Defence Studies Department in September 2016 having worked in various educational roles within the sports sector, most recently as a qualification and digital learning manager. She has an MSc in Digital Education and is experienced in learning design, the creation of digital content and in education programme management, both for online and blended learning.


 Alexandros Tagkoulis, Instructional Designer

  • Designing learning paths and activities for online courses in close collaboration with subject matter experts
  • Collaborating with the multimedia and development teams to produce learning solutions
  • Designing and publishing MOOCs

Alex holds an MSc in Didactics of Digital Technologies with specialisation in e-learning and is a Phd candidate at the National University of Greece. He has worked for more than 10 years in research centres and academic institutions on innovative and research e-learning projects, designing, developing, managing and writing proposals for e-learning projects. He has authored various scientific articles about educational technologies, and is both a reviewer at the Online Education Research Journal and a reviewer of educational resources at the Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT) Repository.

Instructional Technology and Content Development
 Paul Gillary Paul Gillary, Learning Technologist

  • Assisting with the technical development of online programmes
  • Using expert IT knowledge of KEATS

Paul previously worked in the Centre for Technology Enhanced Learning at King's. He has a BSc (hons) in Psychology, an MSc in Human-Centred Computer Systems and is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.


Simon Date, Web Developer

  • Advising the team on our technology stack and meeting the needs and requirements of IDs.
  • Creating plugins and extending the functionality for our supported technologies including KEATS, Adapt and H5P.
  • Working with open source communities to influence future development and releasing our internal work back to the open source community.

Simon previously worked at Kineo, the founding member of the Adapt Community, where he was responsible for the developing the current user interface of the Adapt Authoring Tool. He graduated from the University of Brighton in 2014 with a computer science degree.

 Rachel Brown

Rachel Brown, Web Designer

  • Producing illustrations, diagrams, multimedia elements
  • Designing and creating motion graphics
  • Leading on visual design of course areas within KEATS

Rachel has been working in distance learning at King’s for more than 7 years, assisting with the production of online content for a wide variety of courses, from Masters programmes to MOOCs.


Janek Zavatski, Web Designer

  • Producing illustrations, interactive learning materials, multimedia elements, animations
  • Designing the look and feel of courses, considering UX

Janek has more than 10 years’ web and multimedia design and development experience. He studied at University of Tartu in teaching IT technologies and multimedia and has worked in a number of start-up companies. Janek has also worked in the PR Department at Tallinn City Council, where he coordinated the install of a 12-metre-wide screen, the ‘Tallinn Freedom Square Media Screen’.

Shirley Xie, Web Designer/Graphic Designer

  • Responsible for creating illustrations, animations and building presentations for the IDD team
  • Designing the look and feel of online programmes

Shirley joined the King's Online team in June 2017. She worked previously at the University of Leicester, where she was responsible for designing a wide range of printed publications for the university. She graduated from Warwick University in 2007 with a master's degree in International Design & Communication Management.

Gayatri Menon, eLearning Assistant

  • Conducts quality assurance checks for online programmes in accordance with King's styling and branding
  • Provides office-wide assistance for instructional design, content development and video teams, including involvement in various research initiatives
  • Contributes to the improvement of project workflow processes

Gayatri has worked at King's College London since late 2016, following the completion of her MSc here in Forensic Mental Health Research.

Sam Hodgson, eLearning Developer

  • Responsible for creating the look and feel of online programmes
  • Works as a graphic designer, creating illustrations and building presentations 
  • Assists in the studio, recording both audio and film, when such support is required

Sam has worked as part of the King's Online team focused on IoPPN projects for over a year. He has thus far very much enjoyed working with colleagues to bring various online projects through to development from their very earliest stages.


Jonathan Pott-Negrine, Content Developer

  • Weekly build and maintenance of KEATS course content
  • Responsible for presentation and lecture QA
  • Develops and deploys learning resources

Jonathan joined King's Online in January 2017, coming from an eLearning background. He has a degree in English.

Video Production

Dan Childs, Senior Video Producer

  • Leading the King's Online video team
  • Working with instructional designers, project managers and academics to determine best use of video content within each course
  • Directing video shoots in the studio and on location
  • Overseeing the development and maintenance of the King’s Online production studios

Dan has more than eight years’ experience directing, producing and shooting short films, documentaries and corporate videos. His films have been screened and broadcast by Bafta, the BFI, National Geographic and the United Nations, as well as at film festivals internationally.


Georg Avram, Video Producer

  • Leading the production of video content for King's Online courses from concept to final delivery, providing creative and technical input at every stage
  • Working with instructional designers, project managers and academics to determine best use of video content within each course
  • Directing video shoots and operating camera and sound equipment, in studio and on location
  • Supervising the post-production process; editing video content and creating graphics

Georg began working at King's Online in February 2017. He holds a bachelor's degree in Visual Arts and has worked on various film and TV productions since 2008. He has completed several personal projects as a director, both documentaries and fiction, and worked as a freelance videographer for the last three years.


Liva Puce, Video Producer

  • Leading the production of video content for King's Online courses from concept to final delivery, providing creative and technical input at every stage
  • Working with instructional designers, project managers and academics to determine best use of video content within each course
  • Directing video shoots and operating camera and sound equipment, in studio and on location
  • Supervising the post-production process; editing video content and creating graphics

A founding member of the King's Online video team, Liva has been creating short films, documentaries and other video content since 2008. She has been a creative director/creator of various online video channels and completed a BA in Digital TV Production at Ravensbourne in 2016 - honing her skills as a digital content producer and providing new training as a live multi-camera director and vision mixer.  


Fernando Barros Machado, Video Editor

  • Video Editor and Colourist for IDD, King's Online
  • Working with instructional designers, project managers and academics to determine best use of video content within each course
  • Providing creative and technical input throughout all stages of video production

Fernando began working at King's Online in January 2017. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Cinema and Television, and has worked on various film and television productions since 2013. He has completed several projects as a Colourist & Video Editor, and has worked as a freelance colourist for the last five years.


George Knowles, Video Editor

  • Video Editor and Colourist for IDD, King's Online
  • Working with instructional designers, project managers and academics to determine best use of video content within each course
  • Providing creative and technical input throughout all stages of video production

George has been a member of the video team within King's Online since July 2016. He continues to work as a freelance editor and colourist, and has worked with various production companies over the last five years. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Editiing and Post-Production at Ravensbourne in 2016.
