Overview
Our BSc in Mathematics with a Year in Industry provides a rigorous foundation in advanced mathematical theory and its applications. You’ll develop a well-rounded knowledge of key subdisciplines while having the flexibility to specialise in areas that interest you.
In your first and second years, you'll cover core subjects like calculus, algebra, probability, and statistics. From your second year onwards, you can choose to specialise in specific areas or explore a broad range of subjects with extensive options in your fourth year, ranging pure mathematics to financial mathematics, and from statistics to theoretical physics.
You will spend your third year gaining valuable work experience with a year-long placement at a UK company before returning to complete your final year with us. Finding an industry placement will require you to be resourceful and engaged. The Faculty has dedicated placement support providing advice and host employer-led events, ensuring you have all the tools to secure the right placement for you.
The course equips you with a highly sought-after skillset, enabling you to apply creative and deductive thinking to a range of exciting careers, including in emerging technologies such as big data and AI.

Course essentials
The Department of Mathematics at King’s College London has a long and distinguished history as a world-leading centre for research and education. By joining us, you will learn from and work alongside some of the foremost mathematical minds in the world. Our goal is to develop graduates with a pioneering mindset through research-led teaching, which encourages new ways of looking at familiar issues and develops innovative tools to solve complex problems.
Our BSc course develops your proficiency across all branches of mathematics. In pure mathematics you will cover topics including algebra, analysis, geometry and number theory, and in applied mathematics you’ll explore complex systems, probability, statistics and theoretical physics. From your second year onwards you can choose to specialise in the areas that interest you, or take a broader approach, with a huge array of modules to choose from in your fourth year.
You will also have the option of completing a dissertation on a topic of your choice, working one-on-one with an academic supervisor, developing your independent research skills, critical thinking and creativity.
In your third year you can pursue a professional internship and get paid a salary to work for a company. We help you secure these competitive year-long placements by providing support from King’s Career Services, a Maths academic Year in Industry lead and a dedicated Faculty Placement Coordinator.
