We have the privilege to introduce you to one of the most respected and vibrant departments of Theology and Religious Studies both nationally and internationally.
According to the national Research Excellence Framework (REF) we are the 3rd in the UK on the quality of our research outputs (‘research power’) and the 2019 QS World University Subject Rankings puts us as 6th in the UK for overall quality of our research, teaching and student experience.
One of the longest established departments of this kind in the country, TRS cherishes the best in its traditions while also demonstrating the ability to 'move on' and not be unduly constrained by outlived custom. It is truly a centre of excellence and innovation in the study of religion across a broad and distinctive range of disciplines – from Theology and Biblical Studies to Social and Political Sciences and from History and Philosophy to Religious Studies and the Arts.
Renowned for its expertise in the three ‘Abrahamic Religions’ - Christianity, Islam and Judaism, TRS also offers outstanding research-based knowledge of Buddhism, Shamanism, and new religious minorities. Our international community of scholars is renowned for its excellent teaching of the key aspects of these religions – their histories, sacred texts, social contexts, engagement in politics, lived practices, beliefs, arts, and material culture.
Last but not least, our academic and professional staff and students promote the ethos of a shared community that enables each of its members to enjoy their life at King’s and to fulfil their potential to the fullest degree.
