About us

In the top 10 Theology & Religious Studies departments in the UK.

We are a dynamic, forward-looking department of Theology and Religious Studies, proud of our diverse student community and our outstanding socially-engaged research. We're in the top 10 in the UK for Theology, Divinity & Religious Studies (QS World Rankings by Subject 2022).

King's TRS embodies the University's vision for London and the world.  Our central London location gives us unique opportunities to connect with major art galleries, religious leaders, legal professionals and Westminster policymakers, as well as local communities in some of the UK's most diverse neighbourhoods.  Our global reach extends through Asia and across the Atlantic.

One of the longest established Theology departments in the country, King's TRS is a centre of excellence and innovation in the study of religion across disciplines – from Social and Political Sciences to Theology and Biblical Studies, and from Philosophy and Ethics to Religious Studies and the Arts.

We offer expertise in Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Shamanism, and new religious movements.  Our research and teaching emphasises religious diversity and the rich histories of cultural encounter that shape life in the modern world.

King's TRS is the home of the Visual Commentary on Scripture and the educational charity Inform

In the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF2021), the Department was ranked 3rd in the UK overall and 1st in the UK for our research environment. 100 per cent of our research environment was rated ‘world leading’ (4*) and 91 per cent of our research was rated either ‘world leading’ (4*) or internationally excellent’ (3*).
