Research interests and PhD supervision

My research is focused on the literature of the Anglo-Saxons and the reception and adaptation of that literature in contemporary culture, poetry and genre fiction. I have worked on representations of vengeance in the significant early medieval artefact known as the Junius 11 manuscript; medieval and modern science fictions; and, more recently, archive-based research on the experimental and sometimes anarchic use of Old English by writers, performers and publishers involved in ‘The British Poetry Revival’ during the 1970s.

Selected Publications
  • Medieval Science Fiction (as co-editor with James Paz), KCLMS/Boydell and Brewer, 2016
  • ‘Darkness and Light in Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Junius 11’, in Darkness, Depression and Descent in Anglo-Saxon Literature and Culture, ed. Ruth Wehlau(forthcoming, 2017)
  • ‘Eric Mottram and Old English: Revival and Re-Use in the 1970s’ (forthcoming, RES, 2017)
  • A History of Vengeance: MS Junius 11 (monograph, 2018)
