MA in International Security and Strategy

During their year at the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS), course members can take the opportunity to study for an MA in International Security and Strategy.

The programme supplements the RCDS course and is designed to enhance and deepen knowledge of a broad range of subjects relevant to international security and strategy, whilst also fostering awareness of a comprehensive range of approaches relevant to the multidisciplinary study of such issues.

MA International Security & Strategy

Teaching

The programme is delivered through additional seminars spread throughout the RCDS year, led by King's College London academics. These seminars consolidate and deepen the studies being undertaken during the main RCDS course.

Assessment

Assessment is carried out by means of essays, written examinations and a final dissertation.

Enrolment

Please note that the MA in International Security and Strategy is only available to RCDS course members. Students also have to pass a qualifying exam to be accepted onto the Master's programme.

PG Cert International Security and Strategy

KCL offers an opportunity for fulltime RCDS Members to sit for a PG Cert in Security and Strategy for Global Leaders.  This programme is a sixty-credit postgraduate qualification for which the accreditation will run in parallel with the RCDS main course.

Assessment

During the RCDS course all Members (with the exception of KCL MA students) will complete three essays: Strategic Analysis 1, Strategic Analysis 2 and Strategic Analysis 3.

Members working for the PG Cert will be required to pass all three of these assignments at the RCDS assessment grade of ‘Good’ or above.

Enrolment

Unlike entry to the MA programme, there is no exam or a cap on funded places.  Instead, Members must achieve a mark of ‘Good’ or above on Strategic Analysis 1 after which they will be invited to ‘apply’ to formally join the programme.

There are no additional requirements for the PG Cert other than full-time attendance at RCDS.
