NEST is the (N)etwork to (E)ngage, (S)upport & bring (T)ogether Parents and Carers @ King's. It provides support to staff with parental and/or caring responsibilities through a range of events, an online community, and by offering guidance and representation at strategic and policy level.

Our mission is to provide an inclusive environment for everyone to flourish by supporting all parents and carers, through informing and inspiring the Kings community, and influencing change.

Throughout the year, we hold monthly drop-in sessions rotating across the various College campuses at which you can meet other parents and carers to share experiences, seek guidance or support, or hear about the network’s future plans.

The network is led by two Co-Chairs, supported by a committee, which we are always looking to expand and diversify, to assist us in our work, thereby enabling us to do much more to support our community of parents and carers at King’s, and to ensure better representation of our members.

·     Navigating Cultures through our Caring

      Thursday 21 October 2021, 12.00-14.00

Our community of parents and carers is formed of colleagues each with varied experiences of caring. Within our committee alone, we have reflected on how many of us find ourselves navigating our parenting or caring responsibilities through the lens of different cultures and how this brings in equal measures both challenges and joy. Expectations of cultures vary and so we may find ourselves struggling with the differences, but different perspectives also enrich us and foster heterogeneity.

Please join us for our annual panel discussion as we speak about the various ways in which we as parents and carers might be faced with navigating different cultures.

  • 12.00-13.00, panel discussion (speakers tbc)
  • 13.00-14.00, informal discussion & lunch

If you are a member of NEST, keep an eye on your inbox or on Yammer. Otherwise, please get in touch for details of how to join this online event.

***If you would like to be on the panel, please get in touch with us.***

What's Your Experience? Flexible Working @ King's

In light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, this event has now been postponed. We will update details of when this will take place later in the year once the situation is clearer. Thank you to those who registered to attend.

Join us and the rest of the Flexible Working Group to mark the launch of the Flexible Working Group's SharePoint site (coming in September 2021) and share our experiences of flexible working at King's. It's an opportunity for us to bring together those passionate about or interested in flexible working.

More than a Mum: sharing our talents in life after birth

In light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, this event has now been postponed. We will update details of when this will take place later in the year once the situation is clearer. Thank you to those who registered to attend.

To celebrate mothers at King's just one month after Mothers' Day, we want to hear from you about all the amazing things that you do beyond your role as a mum. Perhaps you sing or write poetry and want to perform, or you may have other special talents you want to share. There'll be the opportunity to perform/present, and we are also seeking submissions so that we can display these on posters in the space to showcase your talents. Whatever you do to help retain your identity, we'd love for you to join us.

Monthly Drop-in Sessions

These run monthly from September to July, inclusive and take place from 10.30-11.30am in the second week of each month, alternating between Tuesdays and Thursdays. Until further notice, these are currently all being run as virtual drop-ins and the link to the Teams meeting is the same for each Tuesday or Thursday event.
