LGBT+ Staff Network

LGBT+ Staff Network

What is the King’s LGBT+ Staff Network?

The King's LGBT+ Staff Network was established to support and represent staff members who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and other non-binary gender identities and sexual minorities within the university.

Our mission is to use our voice to help everyone feel a shared responsibility to increase their understanding of diversity in our communities, through building coalitions with identity groups. Through raising visibility and awareness of diversity and inclusion issues, the LGBT+ Staff Network will promote respect and work with internal and external partners to help engage, empower and develop LGBT+ people in the King’s community to be catalysts for change at King’s.

The King’s College London LGBT+ Staff Network Committee has five main aims, to:

  1. Assist with policy development on LGBT+ issues within KCL by providing advice and feedback to the Diversity & Inclusion and HR teams.

  2. Engage key stakeholders in the LGBT+ Staff Network and to raise awareness of LGBT+ issues at KCL.

  3. Provide advocacy and support to LGBT+ staff through encouragement, mentoring, coaching and development.

  4. Provide opportunities to network at social and educational events, and to network with other groups, such as the King’s BME Network, LGBT+ Student Society and women’s networks, to share information and best practice.

  5. Provide advocacy and support to LGBT+ staff through encouragement, mentoring, coaching and development.

  6. Provide advocacy and support to LGBT+ staff through encouragement, mentoring, coaching and development.

  7. Work towards the elimination of unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation, homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying and bias in the workplace.

Get Involved!

Are you a social media guru?

Do you love events planning?

Do you have a perspective into an area of LGBT+ life and culture you’d love to share?

The network can only be as good as the contributions of its members! Though we have two chairpersons leading the network, we will always welcome offers to get involved from all network members. Whether you have a new idea you would like to bring to the network or you would like to support our existing activities, get in touch.

Future calls for applications to official committee roles will be communicated through our newsletters. Please email LGBTnetwork@kcl.ac.uk to be added to the mailing list.

Buddy System

Have you ever wanted to attend an event, but haven't known if you'll see a familiar face? Or do you just want to meet more members of the King's LGBT+ Network?

We operate a 'Buddy System' to make sure as many of us as possible enjoy the events on offer and connect with one another.

It works like this:

  • If an event is listed on our newsletter with the tag [Buddy!], it means a friendly member of the network has agreed to be a point of contact to meet you prior to the event.

  • If you want to meet the buddy at the event, email lgbtnework@kcl.ac.uk and we will put you in touch. The named buddy's details won't be named publicly.

  • Any member of the King's LGBT+ Network can volunteer to be a buddy for any upcoming event. Simply drop an email to lgbtnework@kcl.ac.uk to let us know.
