Key achievements of our four health partnerships

Trauma and orthopaedic curriculum

Developed the trauma and orthopaedic curriculum and supported teaching at the Université Joseph Kasa Vubu in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for 1,000 medical students over three years.

Online medical, nursing and midwifery education

Established an online teaching platform with MedicineAfrica for UK NHS workers to deliver courses to medical, nursing and midwifery students in Somaliland universities, addressing gaps in the current curriculum.

Assessment of medical and nursing students

Supported the implementation of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) for medical and pharmacy students in Sierra Leone, and medical and nursing students in Somaliland, ensuring standardised assessment of practical skills for all graduates entering these professions.

National medical education policy

Provided technical support to the Somaliland Government to develop and implement the country’s first Medical Education Policy, outlining the steps to produce a skilled health workforce.

WHO Safe Surgery Saves Lives

Introduced the WHO Safe Surgery Saves Lives initiative into the four main hospitals in Kongo Central province of the DRC.

Development of triage system

Implemented the first functioning triage system for patients at Connaught Hospital in Sierra Leone, ensuring that the sickest patients receive care quickly.
