Each year, five million people globally die from preventable deaths as the result of poor-quality health care. These deaths could be avoided in a well-functioning health system. Building knowledge, skills and confidence among health care workers is an essential first step towards safe and effective care. With your support, we can make a positive difference to patients in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Somaliland, and Zambia.

We are working to strengthen health systems in Sub-Saharan Africa. Ultimately this is about improving basic healthcare: for the mother who has given birth and urgently needs a blood transfusion to survive; for the baby who needs help to breathe on her own in the first 60 seconds of her life;  and for the young man – the main breadwinner of the family - who has had a motorbike accident and must pay from his own pocket for surgical care.
