Welcome Message

From The Executive Dean, Professor Dan Hunter

Dean of the Dickson Poon Law School Dan Hunter

Welcome to The Dickson Poon School of Law. I have the privilege of leading our world-class Law School, which is engaged in teaching and research that addresses some of the greatest challenges of our time. King’s College London has been in service to society since its foundation in 1829 and we’re proud to continue that tradition to this day, through our teaching, our research, and our partnerships.

We recruit from amongst the highest achieving students and strive to provide them with opportunities to make connections between their academic study and the practical application of law so that they will thrive in their chosen fields. Whatever path our students choose, we inspire them to think deeply about their studies and the contributions they want to make to society through their careers and throughout their lives.

Our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are informed by our research expertise.  We also have a thriving doctoral research community. Our faculty are at the cutting-edge of international legal scholarship and are committed to exploring the role of law in solving today’s global problems through a transnational lens that transcends national borders. Members of The Dickson Poon School of Law advise governments, serve on commissions and public bodies and are seconded to national and international organisations. Through their work with the public, private and voluntary sectors, our expertise is made available to the wider community. Every day we address issues ranging from the promotion of equality and human rights to the legal implications of climate change, globalisation, the advent of AI and much more.

In addition to our traditional on-campus degrees, we run a portfolio of distance and online programmes that are delivered flexibly and allow professionals from a range of sectors from around the globe to gain advanced legal, commercial and policy knowledge as well as sectoral expertise. Law students can join the Legal Clinic where they gain invaluable Pro Bono experience and opportunities to promote justice in all sectors of society Our professional skills modules, dedicated careers service and student societies provides a holistic education that equips students with the skills they need to succeed.

It’s an exciting time to be part of King’s. I invite you to explore our undergraduatepostgraduate and postgraduate research courses; news, and details of our research and its impact to gain an understanding of the work we undertake as an exceptional institution making a distinctive contribution to society and to making the world a better place.
