AI is transforming health and life sciences, higher education and the wider workplace. This not only impacts FoLSM, but presents an opportunity for both staff and students to be at the forefront of AI application, leading in AI-enabled research, innovating and modernising medical and bioscience education, preparing our graduate for AI-enabled workplace, and scale the adoption of AI across our Faculty.
Faculty AI strategy
Our vision: to become a globally recognised leaders in AI-enabled education and research, where students, academics, researchers and professional services staff harness AI to transform education delivery and training in AI, accelerate fundamental and translational research, and optimise processes.
Our strategy has five key priorities:
- Strengthen research excellence through AI
- Transform education through AI-enabled learning
- Develop our staff and attract AI talent
- Enable responsible and ethical AI adoption
- Build robust digital, data and infrastructure foundations
These priorities are underpinned by the creation of a virtual AI community across FoLSM.
The development of these strategic priorities has been led by Professor Rachel Tribe, Vice Dean (Research & Impact), along with a working group, with consultation and input across the Faculty. Our priorities and activities are highly aligned with University priorities and initiatives. to set out our ambition and priorities for AI adoption in FoLSM.

Delivering our strategic priorities
The delivery of the Faculty’s AI strategy will be overseen by the Faculty’s AI Strategic Oversight Committee, chaired by Professor Vasa Curcin.
Two AI working groups – one focused on research, one focused on education – will be the engines for delivering on our ambitions and plans.

Our virtual community
The FoLSM virtual AI community will act as a focal point for signposting expertise, training, collaboration and partnership with the wider College, NHS and industry.
The platform that will support our virtual community is currently in development and will be made available here once finalised. Updates will also be shared via the Faculty News Digest.
