Hannah developed an interest in international development and global health while interning with NGO International Service in the West Bank, Palestinian Territories. There she was involved in multiple projects, including the renowned Y-PEER project, an initiative that works to advocate and educate young people about sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender and HIV/AIDS. Since then, she has completed a Master’s in Conflict, Security and Development (King’s, 2016) and done further work on both development and relief projects with refugees in Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Palestine.
A core part of Hannah’s current role is coordinating the delivery of the Prepared for Practice project, part of the UK Department for International Development’s £45m Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education Innovation and Reform programme. The project seeks to address Somaliland’s health workforce crisis by reforming Somaliland health education, putting practice-orientated learning, teaching and assessment as its centre. By working with partner institutions including Somaliland’s leading health schools, it is estimated that the project will have trained and examined more medical students than the current number of doctors practicing in Somaliland
