On this page, we've pulled together some of our favourite STEM resources. You'll find all sorts of things here, from podcasts and videos to learning platforms and citizen science projects. King’s: Dev Neuro Academy

Dev Neuro Academy is an award-winning widening participation summer school for Year 12 and 13 students hosted by the MRC Centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders and the Centre for Developmental Neurobiology at King’s College London.

King’s: IoPPN Youth Awards

The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) Youth Awards allow young people (aged 15-18) from schools in the local area to have direct experience of research at the IoPPN. The awards cover a number of science-based subjects including genetics, economics, psychology, health, neuroimaging and computer science.

Queen Mary, UoL: Blizard Institute Work Experience Programme

A week-long programme will provide students with the exciting opportunity to gain experience in a laboratory setting and learn more about the medical research here at the Blizard Institute.

Queen Mary, UoL: The William Harvey Research Institute

This programme is for sixth form students who are interested in studying Medicine or a Biological/Biomedical related degree at university. provides an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in laboratory and clinical research.

Imperial College London: Year 12 Work Experience

This is designed to give students an insight into life as a researcher and other careers in higher education. Students will experience working life, from the daily commute to managing their time and navigating a professional environment, all whilst gaining a fantastic insight into the exciting world of research.

Imperial College London: Year 10 Insights Summer School

A four-day, three-night residential program designed to encourage students to continue studying science and engineering subjects after their GCSEs (or equivalent).

Great Ormond Street Hospital

This programme runs twice a year, supporting school pupils interested in careers in Biomedical and Scientific Research Science.

National Physical Laboratory: NPL Academy

This is a fantastic way to make sure you get the most out of a week's worth of work experience. We provide current Year 10 to Year 13 aged students with a real taster of work at a National Laboratory.

Nuffield Research Placements

Placements for year 12 students in UK host organisations. A fantastic opportunity for students to apply skills and knowledge learned at school while providing a meaningful contribution to the work of researchers and industry professionals.

Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC)

In person and online placements in various research labs across the UK. Students will work individually or in a small group with one or two supervisors on a project relevant to their interests.

The MET Office

In-person and online placement opportunities are available across the year, with a variety of teams, including Forecasting, Technology, Engineering and Communications.

Wellcome Sanger Institute

An immersive three day work experience opportunity for year 12 students who are interested in working in the field of biomedical research.

Diamond Light Source

Diamond's work experience programme gives students in years 10-13 the chance to come and work at one of the UK’s leading science facilities for a week. The main element of the week will be a three-day project in a specific area.

University of Warwick

University of Warwick offers a range of STEM work experience placements, which are centrally listed on this page, and cover a range of areas from medicine to engineering.

Surrey Satellite Technology

Designed for those aged 11-18 years old, work experience at SSTL offers a hands on experience across several different Engineering functions, helping you to gain a better understanding of the space industry, and see if you would like a career in space.

Francis Crick Institute

This large research institute offers a range of laboratory work experience placements throughout the year, mostly in the biosciences.

Royal Society of Chemistry recommendations

This chemistry organisation has a good list of suggestions of places to look, with some links.

Royal Society of Biology recommendations

This biology organisation also lists a good range of biology themed work experience opportunities.
