SSPP: a community that makes a difference

The Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy is one of the largest, most diverse and international communities for social research and education in Europe. Its students, academics, researchers and staff are all united in their desire to make a difference.

Whether it is highlighting the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, understanding threats to global peace and security, analysing key political and economic developments, training future educators or researching the effects of climate change, we come together - in person or remotely - to seek solutions to the important issues around the world today.

We bring together people from across the world, and we embrace and celebrate diversity.  We share a commitment to engaged curiosity and action, within an open, collaborative and inclusive culture. A highly creative community, we are also open to new ways of thinking, understanding and engaging people.

The schools and departments that make up our faculty work together to share their expertise and our students are encouraged to explore the full range of opportunities on offer which are also extended to the local communities in which we are based.

An extraordinary community in an extraordinary year

Here is a look back at the many new experiences and challenges that 2020 has brought to our faculty community and how, over the course of the year, we adapted and continued to teach, research, connect with and support each other.
