Head of Department: Professor Peter Hylands
The Department of Pharmacy at King’s College London is part of the School of Biomedical Sciences. It is situated on the Waterloo Campus, on the South Bank of the River Thames with all its cultural and social amenities. The Department is recognised for the excellence in teaching and research, and attracts both high-quality staff and well-qualified students.
There are about 380 undergraduate students, 100 postgraduate students and 28 staff who form a close-knit, friendly department. We have a personal tutor system whereby each student has a member of staff to whom they can go to seek advice and guidance on any problem.
Staff and students come from a large number of different countries, cultures and backgrounds, providing a rich and stimulating diverse environment.
We have offered honours degree courses in Pharmacy of the University of London since 1926 and, with the opening of our first research laboratory in 1952, offered postgraduate degree courses in pharmaceutical sciences. Since then the research activity of the Department has flourished.
We currently offer several taught postgraduate programmes for graduates of pharmacy and other biomedical sciences, as well as a suite of programmes in pharmaceutical medicine.
Research
The Department of Pharmacy has a flourishing research effort in a wide range of fields. All research throughout King's College London is focused through research divisions. The majority of research related to pharmacy is assigned to The Institute of Pharmaceutical Science.
