Impact

King’s offers an outstanding environment for impact and external engagement activity. The Faculty has its own Impact & Knowledge Exchange team to provide expert advice and guidance on developing and evidencing research impact.

In the Research Excellence Framework 2021, 95 per cent of our research impact was judged 'world leading' (4*) and  'internationally excellent' (3*).

Researchers in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities create impact through enhancing public access, understanding and engagement with external publics. This occurs through shaping programming, creative and critical practice in the performing, literary and visual arts - areas such as theatre, music, film and literature. Impact also arises through influencing policy, engaging in political and educational practice and promoting diverse forms of social engagement. Partners range from local organisations through to national and international in different sectors, including businesses, charities and cultural institutions (e.g. the National Archives, Shakspeare's Globe, the British Library).

Looking ahead, impact in Arts and Humanities at King’s will be supported in various ways, including through our interdisciplinary research centres and our Impact Acceleration Account (IAA). The latter is a £450,000 grant from the Arts & Humanities Research Council running until April 2025. Through a series of funding calls, projects and professional development opportunities, researchers will be supported to nurture social justice-oriented projects locally, nationally and internationally with existing and new partners.
