Cultural

The IoPPN has a strong tradition of collaboration and engagement with the arts sector. This is a reflection of our increasing recognition of the innovative ways art – and artistic collaboration and co-creation – can inspire new routes to understanding and explaining how the mind works.

In collaboration with King’s Cultural Community, our researchers and academics work with artists and performers to engage, inspire and educate people about mental health.

With bold approaches to finding a common dialogue between science and art, our collaborations have inspired, and will continue to inspire, a legacy of important work at the IoPPN.

If you are an artist who wishes to collaborate with IoPPN, or would like to find out more about what activities we are currently running, you can find out more from King's Cultural Community.

Arts in Mind Festival 2018

Arts in Mind was a week-long festival in June 2018 celebrating innovative collaborations between researchers at the IoPPN and the creative and cultural sector. It showcased work that explored new ways to improve wellbeing and facilitate a better understanding of mental health, the brain and the mind.
The festival featured over 40 exhibitions, performances, screenings and workshops (including workshops for local primary and secondary schools) on topics as diverse as psychological wellbeing in pregnancy to music and images as mood enhancers. It provided opportunities for immersive and unique, one-off experiences.
The Arts in Mind festival was produced and delivered by King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, working with the university’s specialist Culture team, and marks the 20th anniversary of the IoPPN joining King’s.
