International

The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s is one of the world’s leading teaching and research centres in mental health related sciences and our research has a global impact. It is the premier centre for mental health and neurosciences research in Europe. It produces more highly cited outputs (top 1% citations) on mental health than any other centre (SciVal 2019) and on this metric we have risen from 16th (2014) to 4th (2019) in the world for highly cited neuroscience outputs. World-leading research from the IoPPN has made, and continues to make, an impact on how we understand, prevent and treat mental illness, neurological conditions, and other conditions that affect the brain.

We work with universities overseas, industry, healthcare providers and policy makers both locally and globally, to ensure that our research, and training, are both relevant and far-reaching. Between 2012 and 2017 alone, 892 of our publications in the areas of psychology, psychiatry and neuroscience had partners from across Europe, 342 across North America, 330 in Asia Pacific and 200 across the rest of the world.

We have major international partnerships across multiple continents, including in Africa, where we are 40+ research projects in 30+ countries; in Europe, where we are part of major EU-funded programmes; and in Asia and the Americas, with over a dozen partnerships, including Shanghai Jiaotong University, Sichuan University, Shenzhen Kangning Hospital, Southern University Science and Technology, Chinese University of Hong Kong, National University of Singapore, UCLA, and institutes across India, Peru and Mexico.
