HRA approval

The current system of separate NHS REC and NHS R&D approvals for conducting research in the NHS in England was replaced by a single approval by the Health Research Authority (HRA) in March 2016. Further information on HRA approval.

Good Clinical Practice 

King’s Health Partners Clinical Trials Office (KHP CTO) provide Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training for both Clinical Medicinal Trials (CTIMPS) and non-medicinal studies for researchers across the King’s Health Partner organisations. Details of the training and how to book are on the KHP CTO website.

Clinical Research Network (CRN) training

The CRN offer a range of training courses in GCP and consent for both CTIMPS and non-CTIMPs, this includes GCP workshops for adults lacking capacity, paediatrics and primary care. 

Training includes workshops and online training. CRN training is free of charge for researchers working on a clinical trial or study which has been accepted onto the NIHR CRN Portfolio and for those working directly with an NIHR Clinical Research Network, including patient and public representative.

CRN Fundamentals of Clinical Research

This course is for nurses and allied health professionals new to research posts (in post for more than six months) and as a refresher for all Clinical Research professionals.

To provide a foundation of knowledge to enable you to develop your practice as a Clinical Research Professional.

This CRN course is free to NIHR funded research nurses and practitioners.

KCL tissue and consent

All staff at King’s College London taking consent for tissue collection are required to attend the College Tissue and Consent training. Details of the training are on the KCL intranet.

IRAS e-learning

The Integrated Research Application System (IRAS) is a single online system for applying for the permissions and approvals for health and social care/community care research in the UK, this includes ethics and R&D approvals.

The e-learning module provides training in using IRAS and takes approximately one hour.

Research data management

KCL Library Services now offer training on research data management - planning, collecting and organising your data, storing data securely and depositing your data so that it can be preserved and reused once your project has finished.
