French for Medical and Humanitarian Professions Level 1, Part 1

The course is aimed at: students with an interest in French focusing on the medical field; students planning to work in international development and humanitarian settings; medical staff who want to work in a French speaking country; and NGO staff who want to join a humanitarian mission in a French speaking country. No prior knowledge of French is required as the course is for complete beginners.

Tailor your French lessons to medical vocabulary, and prepare to work abroad as a healthcare practitioner. Learn about the French healthcare system, write and speak about medical, social and ethical issues, and prepare for the Diplôme de Français Professionnel: Médical B2 examination.

French Level 1, Part 1

Build foundational French skills by learning the alphabet, days of the week, numbers, nationalities, and more. Practise how to do things like greet people and introduce yourself or others, share personal information and express yourself politely.

French Level 1, Part 1 (Evening 5 Week Intensive)

Speed up your French study with five weeks of intensive, three-hour evening lessons. At the end of the course, you’ll be able to greet people, talk about daily activities, find your way, tell the time and date, make simple purchases, order a meal, understand very simple oral and written texts and comprehend specific information on simple topics.

French Level 1, Part 2

Understand how to formulate questions with est-ce que and qu’est-ce que and use à and de prepositions before countries and places. Learn the present tense verbs venir, boire, vouloir, mettre, and prendre, and things like adjective agreements and quantities. Start working with the passé composé and imperfect past tenses.

French Level 1, Parts 1-3 (45 hours) - 15 weeks

This course is ideal for complete beginners. You will be able to understand very simple oral and written texts and ascertain specific information on simple topics.

French Level 2, Part 1

Continue your French lessons with the perfect tense + agreement, the Negative form (ne…rien/personne/jamais/plus), and duration (pendant/il y a/depuis). Learn how to use the present tense (c’était/il y avait/il faisait), pronouns(y/en) and relative pronouns (qui/ que/où). Practise how to write a postcard, describe a place, express your feelings and beyond.

French Level 2, Part 2

Discover how to use the future tense, condition with si and use the pronoun on. Learn how to use the imperative to express obligation and prohibition, use the subjunctive + verb to express needs, and form adverbs in -ment. Practise functions like discussing the future and your intentions, outlining health conditions and understanding medical instructions, and expressing satisfaction or dissatisfaction.

French Level 3, Part 1

Write more complex texts on familiar issues and develop intercultural competence further. Ideally students should have completed Level 2 with the King's Language Centre or an equivalent standard.

French Level 3, Part 2

Work your way through simple relative pronouns, nominalisation, and place of adjectives. Learn how to form adverbs and master the passive form. Practise understanding job adverts, applying with a CV and cover letter, and talking about studying and working abroad.
