German Level 1, Part 1

Start your German language journey by learning how to greet people, find your way, tell the time and date, and order a meal. You’ll start to understand simple German text or spoken phrases and begin exposure to the German-speaking world.

German Level 1, Part 2

Learn simple past verbs, like sein (to be) and haben (to have). Start working on the modal verbs wollen (want), müssen (must), können (can) and the perfect past tense. Practice how to make small talk, describe your work, and get directions.

German Level 1, Part 3

Learn how to use adverbs of time (today, yesterday, etc.), ordinal numbers (first, second, etc.), and make requests with imperatives. Improve your modal verbs with sollen (be supposed to) and dürfen (be allowed to). Practice describing medical symptoms, asking for advice and giving compliments.

German Level 1, Parts 1-3 (45 hours) 15 weeks

The course is aimed at a wide range of students with a general interest in German. No prior knowledge of German is required as the course is for complete beginners.

Take your German to GCSE level! Work some more on the perfect past tense, learn how to use conjunctions, get started with subordinate clauses, and more. Practise describing a holiday or city, giving directions, talking about TV and expressing likes and dislikes.

Continue learning how to use adjective endings and subordinate clauses, ask indirect questions and use the simple past form of modal verbs. Practise how to describe your childhood, write professional emails, arrange property viewings and shop for furniture.

Start working with the simple past or imperfect tense (Präteritum) and relative clauses while continuing with indirect questions and subordinate clauses. Practice describing past events and people, discussing friendships, and expressing opinions, preferences and complaints.
