Professor Frank Kelly, Professor of Environmental Health, has commented on research which found that ozone impacts badly on the lungs by reducing the volume of gases that can be exchanged.
Professor Kelly said: “The real question is whether these events take place in us when we're exposed to elevated ozone concentrations.”
The authors of the study – Katherine Thompson of Birkbeck College and colleagues – argue that the finding should “back calls for tighter limits on ozone pollution from cars and factories”.
