Aerosol Science

Source Apportionment

High time resolution measurements of aerosol chemical composition and size distribution can be analysed using multi variate modelling techniques such as positive matrix factorisation. These provide estimates of the contribution of different sources to the measured quantity such as the organic mass, PM2.5 or PM10.

The Aerosol Science Team have used these techniques successfully at the London ‘supersites’ but also using MARPL at industrial locations - most recently to quantify the contribution of different sources to elevated PM10 concentrations in Port Talbot.
