openair Project

openair is a NERC-funded project aimed at providing innovative open-source tools for the analysis of air pollution data.

Since the project started in 2008 it has continued to develop to produce analysis tools that are now used widely throughout the world and by a wide range users including academics, the public sector and consultancies.

Tools have been developed to easily import data from 100s of air pollution monitoring sites across the UK and to manipulate complex data sets. Additionally, tools for back trajectory analysis can help better understand regional source contributions.

Many methods have been developed to help identify and characterise emissions sources in highly flexible ways.

These tools are increasingly used for air quality model evaluation and several dedicated tools have been developed for that purpose.
