How long until I hear whether I've been invited to a selection day?
We aim to inform you whether you have been shortlisted or unsuccessful within six weeks of receipt of your application from UCAS.
Our Selection Days are scheduled in advance and we aim to give you four weeks notice before you attend one. We also have restrictions on the number of applicants we can invite to each Selection Day. At some times in the year (especially near the January deadline) it may take longer for you to hear from us, due to the large number of applications we receive.
You will be able to see whether you have been shortlisted on your MyApplication page.
How long after the selection day will I know if I've been offered a place?
You decision will be processed as soon as possible after the selection day, you will be able to see it first on your MyApplication page and it will then be transmitted to UCAS. We aim to inform all applicants of their decision within 10 working days of a selection day.
Where will I do my clinical placements?
During your course you will be assigned a 'home' NHS Trust where you will do the majority of your clinical placements. The website details which NHS Trusts our students may be allocated to for their clinical Placements.
How is my home NHS Trust allocated?
We will allocate offer holders to NHS Trusts following confirmation; you will be informed which NHS Trust you have been allocated to at the beginning of September via your MyApplication page. Prior to this we will ask you to inform us where you are likely to be living during your studies; we allocate Trusts to minimize travel times for the whole cohort so you may not be placed in the Trust nearest to you.
When do I apply for my Bursary?
Once you are made an offer your details will be passed to NHS Bursaries who will contact you with instructions for applying for your bursary. NHS Bursaries usually start contacting students in batches from early spring. If you have not heard anything by the end of July please contact us. Please note; NHS Bursaries will contact you as soon as they receive notification of an offer from any of your choices even if you then decline that choice. Following enrolment, your University will inform NHS Bursaries that you have enrolled and your fees will be paid to that institution.
When do I start my Disclosure and Barring Service check?
We will start processing your DBS check from May, please check MyApplication nearer the time for more information. On your selection day you will have brought in some of the ID needed to start your DBS check, we may need you to send in updated proof of address when we start the check.
When do I start my Occupational Health check?
If you are made an offer you will need to complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to start your Occupational Health check. You will find this on your MyApplication page.
When does my course start?
Your course will start in the week beginning 16th September. You will register and have induction sessions during this week. You will receive more information about enrolment, registration and induction at the end of August.
How many hours a week will I be in university?
You will be expected to be available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. There is generally no teaching on a Wednesday afternoon to give you time for other activities. During your clinical placements you will work shift patterns similar to a qualified nurse or midwife, this may include nights and weekends.
When will my conditional offer be confirmed?
If you have been made a conditional offer please read the conditions given in your offer letter carefully. You must meet the conditions of your offer by August. Some results (e.g. A Levels, BTEC and Irish Leaving Certificates) are transmitted to the College straight from UCAS, for others such as Access courses, degrees or Open University courses you will need to send in your certificate or a letter from your School or College listing your results. Any other conditions you should try to meet as soon as possible. Please note; if you have applied for university accommodation you will only be allocated once your offer has been confirmed, if you are sending in results ensure that you do so by the 17th August to ensure you are confirmed in time for the first accommodation allocation.
When can I apply for my student loan?
BSc applicants may start applying for their student loan as soon as an offer is made, you do not need to wait for NHS Bursaries to contact you. Go to www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance for more information or to apply online. PgDip applicants are not eligible to apply for a student loan.
Do I have to pay fees?
No. Pre-Registration nursing and midwifery courses are funded by the NHS who will pay your fees in full.
What funding is available for living costs?
Pre-registration nursing and midwifery students may apply for a bursary from the NHS to cover living costs. For PgDip programmes you will receive the full amount available. For BSc programmes the bursary is means-tested and you can also apply for a reduced student loan. Please note; you must be eligible for the bursary to apply for the programme, information about eligibility can be found by visiting the NHS Business Services Authority website. Students who are seconded by their employers will not receive a bursary.
