Professor Mathias Gautel, FMedSci, Head of School

Mathias Gautel is a Professor of Molecular Cardiology. His research interests include molecular mechanisms of muscle disease and signal transduction in cardiac muscle sarcomeres. Professor Gautel was appointed as Professor of Molecular Cardiology in 2002, and was awarded the British Heart Foundation Chair of Molecular Cardiology at King’s in 2008. He heads British Heart Foundation Centre of Research Excellence Muscle Cell Biology theme and was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2010.

Professor Stephen Harridge, Head of Department, Centre for Human & Applied Physiological Sciences

Stephen Harridge is a Professor of Human & Applied Physiology. His research interests include human skeletal muscle function and plasticity, with particular regard to ageing. Professor Harridge was appointed as Professor in 2005 and is the current Editor in Chief of the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports.

Professor Franca Fraternali, Head of Department, Randall Centre for Cell & Molecular Biophysics

Franca Fraternali is a Professor of Bioinformatics & Computational Biology. Her research interests include structural bioinformatics of proteins and nucleic acids, protein structure prediction, molecular dynamics of folded and misfolded proteins, systems biology and the statistical analysis of protein interaction networks.

Professor Tim Hubbard, Head of Department, Medical & Molecular Genetics

Tim Hubbard is a Professor of Bioinformatics. His research interests include genomics and bioinformatics with a particular interest in the mainstreaming of whole genome sequencing into health systems for rare disease and cancer diagnostics, as well as enabling real time decision support for personalisation of treatment. Professor Hubbard is also the Director of Bioinformatics at King’s Health Partners and the Head of Bioinformatics at Genomics England.

Professor Fiona Watt, FRS, FMedSci, Head of Department, Centre for Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine

Fiona Watt is a Professor of Regenerative Medicine. Her main research interests are in the role of stem cells in adult tissue maintenance and how the differentiated state of adult tissues is maintained. Professor Watt was awarded as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2000 and the Royal Society in 2003, She is also the current Executive Chair of the Medical Research Council.

Professor John McGrath, Head of Department, St John's Institute of Dermatology.

John McGrath is a Professor of Molecular Dermatology. His research interests include causes of inherited skin diseases, how these abnormalities disrupt skin structure and function, development of new clinical and therapeutic benefits for genetic skin diseases. Professor McGrath is an honorary Consultant Dermatologist for the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and is on the editorial board of nine international journals.
