Research in the School 'matters'. Our findings influence and transform public policy and practice. Beneficiaries and research users span local and national governments, international organisations, professional associations and learned societies, and voluntary and commercial organisations. 

The School has worked and collaborated with a wide range of organisations and institutions, including: Department for Education, Home Office, Scottish Government, Science Museum Group, Tate galleries, Health Foundation, General Medical Council, Citizens UK, OECD and UNESCO.

Research Excellence Framework

The impact case studies featured in our 2021 submission reflected our influence on:

  • aspirations and public engagement in science; national and international science assessment measures;
  • the assessment and support of learners of English as an Additional Language;
  • effective health and risk communication around water use; and
  • accountability and evaluation policies and practices in youth work.
