Driving sustainability into King’s actions and operations
King’s ambitious sustainability targets are underpinned by operational policies, plans and systems, demonstrating the decisive action we are taking to reduce the negative impacts of our operations.
We have decoupled university growth from growing carbon emissions, and more than halved our emissions in the last 15 years. We fully divested from all fossil fuels almost two years ahead of target, have invested in on-site renewables and source more of our electricity directly from wind farms.
We are further embedding sustainability into our operations to minimise our climate and ecological footprint across King’s, striving to be become a Net Zero institution by 2030.
King’s Staff Sustainability Champions are advocates for environmental action across the university, including in our laboratories where they have led the introduction of more sustainable ways of working. Students and staff also actively contribute to our operations and policies through King’s Climate Action Network (King’s CAN). By empowering them to take action, King's CAN ensures student and staff representation informs university decision-making and governance.
As a signatory to the global Race to Zero for Universities and Colleges, we will continue to make a difference through our supply chain and investments, by engaging our community in behaviour change and through the work we collectively do to achieve our sustainability targets.
