King's Enterprise Award

The King’s Enterprise Award develops, enhances and recognises student enterprise activity, in all its forms - economic, social and/or cultural contexts.

The award is for activities undertaken outside formal learning and is open to all current undergraduate and postgraduate students from any faculty. The Award  enables students to evidence enterprise activities undertaken outside the formal curriculum.

You must apply to take part and your application will be formally assessed by the Entrepreneurship Institute team. Successful completion of the award will be included on your Higher Education Achievement Report.

The Award does not have a credit value. It is informally modelled around a 7.5 credit format equating to approximately 75 hours of engagement. Engagemnet can include:

  • In person with the Entrepreneurship Institute (c.25 hours)
  • Self audited reflection and assessment preparation (c.50 hours)
Intended learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Enterprise Award, you should:

  • Be introduced to entrepreneurship by understanding the world of startups and the entrepreneurial journey.
  • Understand the world of startup investment and finance.
  • Have entrepreneurial attributes instilled through peer to peer interaction and experiential learning opportunities.

 

Assessment

Attainment of the Award will involve you translating your in person engagement with the Entrepreneurship Institute into a learning dimension. You will be expected to analyse your experience, and reflect on your experience using the skills that you have learnt throughout the year.

Assessment of the Award can comprise of a business plan (c.2000 words), an entrepreneurial project proposal (c.2000 words), a functioning website developed by you (accompanied by a project report c.1000 words), a podcast (accompanied by a project report c.1000 words) or a mobile app (accompanied by a project report c.1000 words). 

Alternative means of assessment are also admissible, please contact the Entrepreneurship Institute for further discussion.

In exceptional circumstances an extension for the assessment can be requested. In order to be considered for this, please email jeremy.shorter@kcl.ac.uk with a clear rationale for the extension.
