Description

Patricia Grocott

This event is part of the Nightingale lecture series organised by the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery.

How patient-researcher collaboration leads to new ways of helping people with rare skin conditions.

Professor Grocott’s research led to the development of ground-breaking new stretchy garments for patients with the rare skin condition Epidermolysis Bullosa, which causes widespread blistering and wounds. Her expertise is in using patient-led research creating real-world solutions, to ease the lives of people with severe skin conditions.

In her inaugural lecture, Professor Grocott will explore her path into academia, from meeting a man with a wound that was impossible to dress with conventional wound products, and encountering a philosopher, make-up artists, and Alan Rusbridger of the Guardian along the way!

She will discuss how she navigates barriers between academics, industry and clinicians, and finds ways to harness patients’ problems and aspirations, turning these into practical solutions by working with engineers, designers, materials specialists, and manufacturers.

Attendees will also get some insights into new clinical products in the pipeline.

Come and hear a leader in her field talk about how she engages in new ways of working to translate patient problems into products to help them to live with challenging skin conditions.

The lecture will end with a speech by Professor Dame Jenifer Wilson-Barnett.

The event is open to all and will be followed by a drinks reception in Chapters.

Doors will open at 17:15 and the lecture will commence at 17:30
