Module description

This module is for students who want to learn Biblical Hebrew from scratch.
No previous knowledge is assumed.  Students will be given an intensive grounding in Biblical Hebrew grammar. As part of the course we will be reading biblical texts ranging from selected parts of Genesis to some excerpts from prophetic books.

Teaching takes place on a weekly basis throughout the year. In addition to the classes, at least 6-8 hours self-study time per week is recommended.

Assessment details

4 online tests (5% each, total of 20%); One 3,000 word essay (80%)

The final essay will take the form of a translation of a biblical passage together with a commentary that should comment on any interesting grammatical or linguistic features of the text, as well as its content.

Teaching pattern

One two-hour and one one-hour weekly classes over 20 weeks.
