Drawing on a revolving selection of issues and themes, the module's purpose is to explore in depth the contributions by Muslim intellectuals to the selected issue or theme. Themes selected for a term-long engagement may include, but not be limited to, colonisation and modernity; epistemology; new approaches to the Qur'an; globalisation; Muslim legal and political thought; issues of gender, sexuality, and diversity in the Muslim world. Using both primary texts (in translation) and secondary sources, the subject under investigation will be contextualised by relating its significance to concerns affecting the Muslims, the Islamic and wider world.
