Module description

This module will cover fundamental concepts of electromagnetism and power systems and it is structured in nine topics. Each topic will be covered in a week:

Topic 1- 3: The first part of the module introduces some basic concepts of electromagnetism to provide a physical foundation to concepts of electricity

Topic 4: A revision of electromagnetic oscillations, alternating currents and power based learned in year 1 will be carried out, based on the above concepts

Topic 5-9: The second part of the module will introduce power systems, electrical machines and power electronics

Assessment details

Written examination & coursework

Educational aims & objectives

The aim is to familiarize the students with the fundamental concepts and laws in electricity and magnetism, and establish a grounding in electromagnetism in preparation for more advanced electronic engineering courses. Also to provide them with analytical tools to understand and analyse the interactions between time-varying electric and magnetic fields.
