This module will survey a range of connected problems in the philosophy of self-consciousness. It will focus on contemporary philosophical work on this topic in the analytic tradition, with some discussion of the various ways in which the contemporary debates are rooted in the problems with which early modern and 20th century philosophers were engaged. It will also critically discuss work in psychology and neuroscience which forms the basis of several disputes in contemporary philosophical work on the relation between bodily awareness and self-consciousness.
