This module invites you to study the sociology and politics of ancient Israel. We will think about the difficulties of using social scientific methods where fieldwork is not possible, and then study the available evidence for ancient Israel and Judah, such as archaeology, biblical texts, and inscriptions. This will bring to life the world of this part of the ancient Levant-and the modern world in which we live. The module will also provide you with an opportunity to look into the power politics and realpolitik of ancient Levantine cities and states, as well as the politics within the kingdoms of Israel and Judah.
