This module introduces three of the most influential thinkers within modern ‘continental’ philosophy: Jean-Paul Sartre (extracts from Being and Nothingness), Simone Weil (extracts from Waiting for God, and Gravity and Grace) and Michel Foucault (extracts from History of Sexuality and Discipline and Punish). All texts will be studied in translation.
Summative assessment: one 3,500-word essay (100%).
One weekly one-hour lecture and one weekly one-hour seminar.
