Centre for Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine

The Stem Cell Hotel & HipSci

The Stem Cell Hotel

The Centre for Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine occupies an entire floor of the Tower Wing of Guy’s Hospital, with space and funding for up to 10 junior faculty, underwritten by tenured lectureships.

One of the Centre’s innovative features is the ‘Stem Cell Hotel’ that provides dedicated laboratory space for collaborative studies of genotype/phenotype interactions in cells from healthy individuals and disease cohorts.

Part of this work is funded by the Human Induced Pluripotent Stem (iPS) Cell Initiative (HIPSCI) (www.hipsci.org) – a Wellcome Trust / MRC strategic award headed by Fiona Watt and Richard Durbin. The Hotel contributes to the new UK Regenerative Medicine Hub on engineering and exploiting the stem cell niche.

HipSci

The Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Initiative (HipSci) brings together clinical genetics with genomics, proteomics and cell biology to create a UK national iPS cell resource to carry out cellular genetic studies.

Within this framework, the HipSci Cell Phenotyping group at King’s College London is developing assays to image cells in artificial microenvironments to study responses to chemical, physical, biological stimuli and develop disease models.

The group offers the use of its state-of-the art imaging equipment to trained external users. We are available for training and advice and to discuss the possibility of collaborating on specific projects of mutual interest.

The final HipSci symposium was held at the Centre for Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine on the 22nd March 2018.

The event was very well attended and delegates were presented with talks by a range of excellent speakers who discussed the outputs of the HipSci project, disease modelling and differentiation and the value of large scale human iPSC collections.

HipSci: Cells, Data and Tools for Collaborative Stem Cell Research

HipSci---Event-5th-July

This event, organised by Dr Davide Danovi and Miss Ayelen Helling, highlights the resources that the Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Initiative has rendered available for the scientific community.

It will take place at the Centre for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine.
