Who we are

Welcome from Head of School, Professor Dame Til Wykes

Our School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences is home to innovative methodological sciences and clinical sciences (e.g. psychology, health economics, statistics, informatics, genetics) that underpin research on mental health and neurological disorders. Our expertise allows us to carry out research that contributes to our understanding of mental and physical health and our scientific breakthroughs have an impact on individuals and their families, health services and society. We work closely with our local NHS in King’s Health Partners, especially the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Our research-led teaching and science links across the whole IoPPN, King’s, the UK and the Globe.

We have more than 100 academics with investigations that include basic research through to treatment development and implementation, and on to healthcare and society. Our research spans development from childhood to old age. 

The School is made up of four departments,: Biostatistics & Health Informatics, Health Service & Population Research, Psychology, and Social, Genetic & Developmental Psychiatry.

Embracing research, education and clinical translation

The School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences embraces research, education and clinical translation aiming to further understand and improve mental health and brain disease and train the next generation of researchers and practitioners. 

The School is affiliated with the King’s Clinical Trials Unit – a centre of excellence which helps research teams throughout the country carry out clinical trials safely and to a high scientific standard.
