Module description

In this module this year we’ll be looking at the Roman empire of the first three centuries. We’ll investigate both top-down and bottom-up history, namely how and why the Romans ruled their empire, and what it was like to live under it. In so doing we’ll unearth some surprising corners of Roman imperial history, from the Roman government’s surprisingly “hands-off” approach to provincial rule, to the subtle and not-so-subtle ways that the provinces and their inhabitants fought back.
