Module description
Syllabus:
Linear models, regression analysis, analysis of variance, applications in various fields. Using a specialised statistical software package to analyse linear models.
Prerequisites:
5CCM241A Probability and Statistics II
You cannot take with 5CCM242A Statistical Modelling
Assessment details
Written examination and data analysis project.
Educational aims & objectives
This module introduces students to the theory, methods and applications of linear models. The theory of the general linear model will be introduced, with an emphasis on widely used methods such as regression analysis, analysis of variance, etc. Applications in various fields will be used to give students experience of applying the methods using a specialised statistical software package to analyse linear models.
Learning outcomes
Be able to carry out regression analysis and interpret the results. Be able to fit a model to data and comment on the adequacy of the model. Be able to use a statistical software package to analyse real world data.
Teaching pattern
3 hours of lectures per week with 1 hour of tutorial or practical lab (in alternating weeks)
