The first half of this module will be devoted to a study of selections from all of the works of Ovid, with a special focus on the Metamorphoses. We will consider the interpretation of the works themselves as well as the recurring themes of Ovid’s poetry and the nature of Ovid’s sensibility.

The second half will follow the reception of Ovid from antiquity to the twenty first century. We will consider not only literature but also art (with a visit to the National Gallery) and opera.
