Postgraduate taught courses

From specialist clinical training to courses designed for working dentists, King’s offers a range of high intensity programmes to take students to the forefront of their field.

As a global centre of excellence for education, research and clinical care, our postgraduate programmes combine evidence-based teaching and learning, sophisticated patient care planning and research methodology.

Each postgraduate taught course is led by two academic staff, experts in their fields, and supported by the faculty professional services Education team. Dr Mark Ide and Dr Mark Packer are joint Associate Deans for Postgraduate Taught Studies and, alongside their clinical teaching and leadership roles, work to ensure student satisfaction and wellbeing.

Duration: Three years, blended learning, January start

Our Advanced Minimum Intervention Restorative Dentistry MSc is delivered online with face-to-face training blocks. The course provides a clinical and business approach to tooth preserving caries management in dental practice. Designed for dentists and/or DCPs to develop and enhance preventive and tooth-preserving operative, patient and clinical practice management skills.

Duration: Three years, blended learning, January start

Our Aesthetic Dentistry MSc is delivered online with face-to-face training blocks. This innovative course will give you the skills and knowledge to provide high quality functional dental restorations with optimal aesthetic value. We focus on training you to provide dental care where there is a clinical need to restore oral health and function, and also cover cosmetic and facial techniques.

Duration: Nine months, January to September. Clinical attendance is part-time - one day per week, January to July, alongside self-directed study. In addition, seven study days and at least two assessment days are attended on campus.

Our Postgraduate Diploma in Conscious Sedation for Dentistry creates enhanced understanding of the processes involved in conscious sedation through knowledge of the basic sciences. The course provides a high level of clinical experience in treating patients under sedation in supervised sessions.

Duration: One year registration - January to September study and attendance time, with examination board in December.

Our Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Cone Beam CT Radiological Interpretation is delivered online with a block of face-to-face training and study days. The course trains dentists to use CBCT imaging appropriately to help diagnose clinical problems of the dento-alveolar areas of the jaws, correctly interpret the radiological signs and write structured radiological reports.

Duration: One year, five days per week, September to September

Our Dental Public Health MSc challenges you to think critically about oral health at population level. Subjects covered include the philosophy and principles of dental public health; the major health problems of a community (and their determinants); the organisation and delivery of oral health services; research methods, epidemiology and statistics; methods of control and prevention of oral and dental diseases; planning and evaluation for oral health; and social and behavioural sciences as applied to dentistry.

Duration: Three years, blended learning, January start

Our Endodontics MSc is delivered online with face-to-face training blocks. It is designed to give you the skills to confidently manage more complex and demanding cases. We provide the latest evidence-based knowledge enabling you to successfully integrate endodontic therapy with other aspects of restorative dentistry, and learn research methodology. This course is mostly delivered online, so you can study anywhere in the world with minimum disruption to your professional and personal life while benefitting from world-class teaching.

The Endodontology MClinDent provides extensive contemporary knowledge, enabling students to attain clinical proficiency to specialist level, to relate endodontic care to other aspects of restorative dentistry, and to learn research methodology.

Our Fixed & Removable Prosthodontics MClinDent is delivered online with face-to-face training blocks. This comprehensive restorative dentistry course is focused on fixed and removable prosthodontics, designed to advance skills in complex multi-disciplinary dental problems.

Our Maxillofacial & Craniofacial Technology MSc provides training to a specialist level for dental technicians, maxillofacial prosthetists and dentists.

Our Maxillofacial Prosthetic Rehabilitation MSc has been designed for maxillofacial prosthetists, technologists and prosthodontists to learn to use cutting-edge digital technology for intra and extra-oral prosthetic facial rehabilitation in clinical practice. The course is delivered online with face-to-face teaching blocks.

Our Microbiome in Health & Disease MSc provides students with a unique background in all aspects of both analysis of microbiome and determining the role of microbiome in pathology with experience in both computational and experimental techniques.

Duration: Two years, April to March

Designed to enhance the operative skills of newly-qualified dentists, as well as experienced practitioners, the Operative Dentistry Postgraduate Diploma includes hands-on sessions, supervised clinical treatment, workshops and seminars. Students develop the technical, diagnostic and treatment planning skills necessary to practice modern clinical operative dentistry and attend approximately 46 days over two years at King's College Hospital.

Our Paediatric Dentistry DClinDent offers you teaching in all aspects of paediatric dentistry, including a hands-on laboratory module in operative dentistry for children. Our course includes diagnosis, treatment planning and delivery of care requiring non-pharmacological behaviour management strategies and for those requiring oral rehabilitation under sedation or general anaesthesia.

Our Periodontology MClinDent combines academic study, clinical skills training and research and offers exceptional, innovative teaching. A wealth of academic expertise will give you a thorough practical education in advanced clinical periodontology, including aesthetics, implants and contemporary surgical methods.

Our Prosthodontics MClinDent provides comprehensive exposure to planning care with experienced consultant-led teaching for fixed, removable and implant prosthodontics.

The Regenerative Dentistry MSc is for both dentists and biological scientists who desire to learn more about the latest advances in stem cell biology; mechanisms of repair and regeneration; cell and molecule-based dentistry and also gain experience in carrying out laboratory-based, cutting-edge research stem cell biology.

Our multidisciplinary Tissue Engineering & Innovation Technology MRes offers you the opportunity to undertake research in a rapidly evolving field of regenerative medicine with new developments in tissue engineering, biomaterials, bone substitutes, 3D printing for customised implants and prostheses, imaging, dental restoratives and drug delivery.
