Ms Karen Bailey

PhD Student




Karen Bailey is a final-year PhD student studying under the supervision of Dr Gail Gilchrist and Kylee Trevillion based in the Section of Women’s Mental Health at the IOPPN. Karen is piloting an integrated intervention to address substance misuse and post-traumatic stress for women who have experienced inter-personal violence. This pilot is being done in partnership with two London based voluntary sector organisations: Cranstoun substance misuse service and Women and Girls Network, an organisation delivering therapeutic support to women who have experienced gendered violence.

Karen holds an MSc in Mental Health Services and Population Research from Kings College London as well as an MA in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights at the University of Essex. She has worked in the violence against women sector for 15 years, in a variety of roles including Deputy Director of Against Violence and Abuse, and Project Coordinator for the Stella Project which works to improve responses to domestic and sexual violence, problematic substance misuse and mental health.

Karen is a member of the Addictions Diversity and Inclusion Working Group
